It's a hardware repair. You remove the original NAND storage chip from the logic board and replace it with a larger-capacity chip — taking a 32GB iPhone to 128GB or 256GB. The key is preserving SysCfg, the block on the chip that holds the IMEI, Wi-Fi MAC, Bluetooth MAC, and Touch ID pairing, so the phone keeps its identity after the swap.

Can you really upgrade an iPhone from 32GB to 256GB? Yes. 32GB to 256GB is one of three proven paths, along with 32GB to 128GB and 128GB to 256GB.

The replacement NAND chip is read and written on a programmer so the original SysCfg carries over, then reballed and reflowed onto the board. The phone is restored through Finder, iTunes, or 3uTools and reports the new capacity. Does this work on Android phones?

Do I need a NAND programmer and a microscope? Yes to both. A NAND programmer such as the JCID P7S, P15, or V1S reads the identity block off the original chip and writes it to the replacement.

A 10x to 40x microscope lets you inspect pads, confirm alignment before reflow, and catch solder bridges. You'll also need a hot-air rework station with adjustable temperature and airflow, plus an ESD-safe mat and wrist strap. Which iPhone models does this work on?
