About this course

Five full practice tests. 500 questions. Every GX-PT objective covered.

The GIAC Experienced Penetration Tester (GX-PT) is an Applied Knowledge certification. The real exam is 100% CyberLive: 25 hands-on tasks against live virtual machines, four hours, open book. There is no multiple choice section on it.

So let me be direct about what this course is. These are written practice tests, not a lab. They cannot replicate sitting in front of a live VM.

What they do is drill the layer underneath the hands-on work: the technique selection, the tool choice, the syntax, and the ability to look at real output and know what it means. Candidates rarely fail GX-PT because they cannot type a command. They fail because under time pressure they pick the wrong technique for the situation in front of them.

That is exactly what 500 scenario questions train. What is insideFive practice tests of 100 questions each, mapped across all nine official GX-PT objectives and weighted to match how GIAC describes the exam's coverage:Offensive Operations ReconnaissanceNetwork Scanning for Pen TestsNetwork Access ExploitationPassword Analysis and CrackingLateral Movement and Privilege EscalationPenetration Testing of Domain EnvironmentsEnterprise System Penetration TestingCommand and Control Communication and EvasionLinux Penetration Testing ToolsQuestions are interleaved rather than grouped by topic, the way a real exam presents them. Answer options are randomized per question, so there is no "always B" pattern to game and no longest-answer-wins tell.

Every question is explainedEach item ends with a written rationale covering why the correct answer is correct and, where it matters, why the plausible wrong answer fails. You will find simulated nmap output, service banners, hash captures, AD enumeration results and C2 scenarios to interpret. Roughly half the bank asks you to apply judgment under stated constraints such as lockout policies, egress filtering or EDR presence.

Around a third chains two or more phases together, for example taking an initial foothold plus enumeration data and working out the path to Domain Admin. How to use itTake test one cold. Whatever score you get, the useful output is the objective breakdown, not the number.

Take the remaining tests across your study weeks and watch which domains stay flat. Then go build those specific attacks in a lab. GIAC does not publish a minimum passing percentage for GX-PT on its certification page, so this course does not invent one.

Check the Certification Information section of your GIAC account for the figure that applies to your attempt. GIAC also sells three official demo tasks, which are the only authoritative preview of the live exam environment. Get those as well.

This course supplements them, it does not replace them. Volume #2 continues with practice tests six through ten, built around chained enterprise scenarios and full-length timed simulation for your final weeks.

GWAPT Exam Prep: GIAC Web Application Penetration Tester #1

Adrian Găitan

GWAPT stands for GIAC Web Application Penetration Tester, the hands on offensive security credential tied to SANS SEC542. It tests web application penetration testing across 8 official domains, using a mix of standard multiple choice and CyberLive questions that ask you to read real HTTP traffic, proxy tool output and payloads instead of picking a definition from a list. This course gives you 5 full length practice exams, 410 questions total, built to the same format as the real thing: 82 questions per exam, 3 hours on the clock, single best answer only. Every question comes from original scenarios written specifically for GWAPT, covering all 8 domains: web application overview, reconnaissance and mapping, configuration testing, authentication attacks, session management, SQL injection, CSRF and XSS and client injection, and testing tools. Each question includes a short rationale explaining why the correct answer is right and why the strongest distractor is wrong, so you can use the bank as a study reference, not just a scoring exercise. CyberLive style questions are clearly labeled and built around realistic Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP and sqlmap style output, raw HTTP request and response pairs, and injection payloads, the same kind of material you interpret live in the exam's hands on component. What you will practice:Reading raw HTTP requests and responses under exam conditionsDistinguishing SQL injection types: error based, blind and time basedTelling reflected, stored and DOM based XSS apartRecognizing CSRF conditions and session management weaknessesInterpreting proxy and scanner output the way GWAPT presents itThis is the Advanced tier course: questions calibrated to GWAPT exam difficulty, not a beginner introduction to web security. If you completed SANS SEC542 or built equivalent hands on experience and want realistic, timed practice before exam day, this is where to start. If you finish this set and want a harder second pass, GWAPT Exam Prep #2 covers the same 8 domains at Elite tier difficulty. This course is practice material only. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or produced by GIAC or the SANS Institute. Confirm the current exam format, passing score and material policy directly in your GIAC account before your attempt.
