About this course

New to Active Directory, or want to be sure of the basics? These practice tests check the knowledge every AD administrator starts with: how forests, domains, the schema and OUs fit together, what domain controllers, the global catalog and the operations masters do, and how to manage users and groups with Active Directory Users and Computers, the Administrative Center and PowerShell. You get 4 practice tests with 157 questions in total (37, 40, 40, 40).

Every question was checked twice before release: once by the author against the official documentation, and once by an independent reviewer who answered it blind - any disagreement was settled with a source. What makes the explanations usefulEach answer tells you why the right option is right and why each wrong option is wrong. The wrong options are real features, commands and settings that are easy to pick by mistake - that is where most of the learning is.

How the tests are builtPractice Test 1: AD DS Concepts: Forests, Domains, Schema and OUs: forests, trees and domains, trusts, the schema and directory partitions, OUs and containers, functional levels, AD DS and Microsoft Entra ID. Practice Test 2: Domain Controllers, Global Catalog and FSMO Roles: the global catalog, DNS SRV records, sign-in and Kerberos, sysvol, FSMO roles, promoting domain controllers, install from media, RODC and cloning. Practice Test 3: Administration Tools, Users and PowerShell: ADUC and the Attribute Editor, the Administrative Center, user accounts, templates and profiles, groups, and the ActiveDirectory PowerShell module.

Practice Test 4: Full Mock Exam: a mixed exam across all three areas - take it last, in one sitting. Questions use single-answer and multiple-answer formats; the number of answers to pick is always stated. Suggested time: 60 minutes per test.

Versions: Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2025 Active Directory Domain Services (Active Directory Users and Computers, Active Directory Administrative Center, Active Directory Domains and Trusts, Active Directory Schema snap-in, Group Policy Management, ntdsutil), PowerShell 5. 1 ActiveDirectory module, Hyper-V lab, Microsoft Entra ID, as of October 2026. Please note: these are original practice questions written by an instructor.
